Hollywood’s most glamourous and influential celebrities, including Beyoncé and Kanye West, are turning to an Ivorian stylist for their garments. Jenke Ahmed Tailly, from Cote d’Ivoire, is using his African heritage to inspire his eye-catching clothing and the attention of A-list celebrities.

Previously working as a model, Tailly took his vision to the rest of the world with his designs and styles. He has worked with Vogue and GQ in Britain, Italy and the United States. His influences even stretches to leading brands such as H&M and Benetton.

Beyoncé graced the covers of the 90th-anniversary edition of L’Officiel Paris in 2011, dressed in Tailly’s golden African-inspired dress. This kickstarted Tailly’s relationship with Beyoncé, where he styled her for the next three years, leading to more big-name clients such as Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.

Tailly believes in showcasing Africa’s untapped talent by featuring African models in his shows and collections. “I’m flabbergasted when I go to a fashion show and I don’t see a black model or an Indian model or an Asian model or anyone of colour in the front row,” says Tailly.

Although his list of celebrity collaborations is steadily growing, Tailly prefers to keep his projects private and does not publicise anything on social media. More recently, he was spotted sitting alongside Naomi Campbell at the 2018 Christian Dior Haute Couture Spring/Summer show in Paris.
